Where can I find a pastrami so good my kids all want it for their birthday? Spoiler: It’s Langer’s. :) If you’ve never been to Langer’s in Los Angeles, let me paint the picture for you. Imagine a place so legendary, that all four of my children—who can’t agree on anything except that I’m uncool—individually request it for their birthday meal. That’s right, no Chuck E. Cheese, no sushi, no cupcakes shaped like unicorns. Just Langer’s. Every. Single. Time.
Now let’s address the beef in the room: the famous #19. Look, it’s iconic, sure. But here’s the thing—they don’t grill the bread. And the crunch of the grilled bread is EVERYTHING. It gives the sandwhich a textural element that is heavenly. So we do it our way: Order the #10, ask for it grilled, then snag a side of coleslaw and build your own destiny...lift the top piece of bread and spoon on the creamy slaw. Here’s what happens: The hot, fatty pastrami melts into that buttery, golden grilled rye like it was born to be there. Add in the fresh, cold, crunchy coleslaw, and you’ve basically got a sandwich that sings in multi-part harmony. It’s salty, crispy, tangy, warm, cool, and tender all at once. Oh and I highly recommend an extra side of Russian dressing to dip each bite into.
Honestly, it’s a textural and emotional journey. If you’re in LA and haven’t eaten at Langer’s, fix your life. And if you go and still order the #19, well…to each their own. We’ll be over here, living our best sandwich lives—birthday after birthday.

We are so lucky to have the Petersen Automotive Museum right in our backyard. It is the world's #1 car museum, has a $50 million Ferrari and is a fantastic destination if anyone in your family has even a passing interest in cars or pop culture. It balances sleek design, wow-factor exhibits (which rotate to keep things fresh), and a mesmerizing selection of cars from every era - making it a win for both kids and adults. We recently saw a lowrider exhibit there, and every car was truly a work of art. We love this place, as do our kids, and it is also a great place to take out of town guests. Be prepared for lots of photos and maybe a newfound obsession with sports cars!
What Kids Will Love:
Supercars and Hypercars Galore: The museum has a stunning collection of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Bugattis, and other exotic cars. Even kids who aren’t car buffs will likely be impressed.
Movie Cars Section: From the Batmobile to Lightning McQueen, the movie car exhibit is a highlight for all ages. It’s nostalgic for teens and exciting for kids who may have seen these cars on screen.
Interactive Areas: Some exhibits allow for limited interactivity, such as touchscreens and racing simulators (though check if these are open — they’re sometimes closed for maintenance). Teens especially enjoy trying out the virtual reality and racing games. For the smaller kids, there is a discovery center on the 2nd floor with lots of hands on activities to keep little ones engaged.
Design & Concept Cars: Older kids with an interest in design or technology will enjoy seeing concept cars and futuristic prototypes. The presentation is sleek and engaging, with plenty of photo ops.
Good to Know for Parents:
The Vault Tour (Optional): This is a behind-the-scenes look at rare and vintage vehicles. It's better suited to older teens and adults, and costs extra. Younger kids might find it a bit long or dry unless they’re true car enthusiasts.
Educational Value: The museum is subtly educational, blending history, design, engineering, and culture. Teens can learn about automotive innovation and its impact on society — without it feeling like school.
Accessibility & Layout: It’s easy to navigate, stroller-friendly, and has elevators for all floors. The architecture is bold and fun — even the building itself feels like part of the experience.
Food: There is a cute little spot inside the museum with great vintage decor called the Meyers Manx Cafe. You can grab a snack, a full meal, or even a drink at the bar.
The Petersen Museum is open 7 days a week from 10am - 6 pm. Tickets are $21 for adults, $13 for ages 12-17, and $12 for ages 4-11. There is onsite parking available, albeit on the expensive side. For the first 2 Hours it is $18, each hour after $3, daily max $24. An afternoon at the Petersen makes a great family outing, so if you have even an inkling of affection for cars, you should give it a try. :)

CONCLAVE received eight Oscar nominations this year, including Best Picture. It took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, written by Peter Straughan, and it's stars Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini also received nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. With such a pedigree, it was firmly rooted at the top of our "Must Watch" list, but for some reason we never made it happen.
The film's relevance has been heightened by the recent selection of a new Pope, bringing renewed global attention to the processes and complexities involved in choosing the spiritual leader of millions. So as the real life cardinals entered the conclave in Rome for the first time in 12 years, we thought it was a perfect time to finally watch the big screen version.
Conclave (2024), directed by Edward Berger and based on the novel by Robert Harris, is a tense, political thriller set within the secretive world of the Vatican. The film follows Cardinal Lomeli (played by Ralph Fiennes), who is tasked with organizing the election of a new pope after the death of the previous one. As the conclave unfolds, hidden agendas, rivalries, and a mysterious revelation threaten to upend the process and shake the foundations of the Church.
The movie offers a fictionalized but insightful glimpse into the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that accompanies such momentous decisions, making it a timely reflection on faith and leadership in our world today. It does a great job of highlighting the human, political, and spiritual dynamics at play during these historic decisions. The film is visually striking and shot beautifully, and Fiennes gives a standout performance.
Conclave is a thoughtful and suspenseful drama that offers a rare glimpse into a secretive world and an ancient ritual, and we found it fascinating and highly compelling. And in light of recent events, if you haven't seen it yet, the time is now. :)
